The last two nights were supposed to be about picking a candidate or becoming more sure of a candidate and instead it was a shit fest where the candidates came with preloaded talking points and preloaded take downs of the other candidates. It was adolescent. I’m looking for a damn President not the best food fight.
The first night of the debates was actually good. Yes there were some spontaneous disagreements, redefining positions. That’s a debate, to me. I want to learn about their policies. And granted that CNN had questions meant to lead candidates to a food fight, mostly they ignored it. But last night many of the candidates decided to bring their oppo research in and do mini take downs of Biden. The optics was awful. It looked pre-planned and staged. I realize that each of them are trying to move up in the polls. But how about telling us more about why your running for the damn Presidency! What a noble idea. And I’ll contend that instead of moving up in the polls they may have actually helped Biden simply because it looked so damn staged. I mean, how long did it take Booker to find a perfect time to land his Kool aide remark. And Gillibrand, staying true to fighting for women has the perfect “example” to take Joe down. DeBlasio didn’t want to be left out either. And yet, how many of these folks just loved Joe Biden in years past.
The other subject which deserves it’s own diary is the bullshit slap downs of Obama. You’ll lose my vote if you engage in that bullshit. Period.
